TUCSON, Ariz. — A portion of East Valencia Road near Kolb Road in Tucson is set for another closure Monday, and is expected to last four months.

The work continues months of traffic woes in the intersection as the city's Wilmot Road to Kolb Road Improvement Project enters phase three.

According to the Tucson Department of Transportation, Valenica will be closed in both directions from the newly installed south ramp to the Kolb intersection, where the north ramp will be closed as well. Valencia traffic will be diverted to Kolb via the newly completed south ramp. Traffic heading south on Kolb from there will have to turn right, then U-turn at Old Vail Road.

From Kolb, only the westbound lanes on Valencia will be closed, with both east and west traffic diverted to the eastbound lanes. That closure will continue until just before the Wilmot Road intersection.

TDOT says the improvements will increase roadway capacity and improve safety in the area. The improvements will include new bike lanes, sidewalks, street lights and landscaping on the roadway.
