The U.S. Air Force is considering bringing an F-16 fighter squadron that trains Taiwanese pilots from a base in Glendale to Tucson.

The Air Force is proposing that the 21st Fighter squadron, which is made up of 14 jets and 191 personnel, be moved from Luke Air Force Base in Glendale.

The new destination would be the Arizona Air National Guard facility at Tucson International Airport. If all goes as planned, the squadron would be relocated to the Valencia Rd. and Nogales Highway location by December 31, 2019.

One reason for the move is to make some extra room for the F-35 fighters at Luke Air Force Base.

If it falls through, the unit could be moved to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base instead. Other possible locations outside of Arizona are New Mexico's Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, and Albuquerque Air National Guard Base.
