Construction work of the new intersection connecting Kolb Road with the extension of Sabino Canyon Road begins today.
Construction of the project began back in December of last year, with the construction of the bridge. However, now it is time to begin one of the final stages of this $12 million extension with the construction of the road connecting Kolb with the bridge.
Work to construct the new intersection is scheduled to be completed by December 1st. The city of Tucson is working with the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) to improve Sabino Canyon Road from just south of Tanque Verde Road to Kolb Road.
The construction of the new intersection may cause some delays for drivers on the Eastside, travel on Kolb Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Drivers are advised to plan accordingly in order to avoid any delays while driving through the work zone during those hours. However, there will be no restrictions during the day, so drivers will be able to get around the area without any issues.
Traffic experts are looking forward to the completion of the project because it will ease traffic on the east side. The project is scheduled to be completed in February.
