The Cochise County Board of Supervisors has declared Robbs Road as a County highway to allow for improvement work to move ahead.

According to the county, earlier this year, Cochise County received a $475,000 grant from the Arizona Commerce Authority to pave three miles of Robbs Road. The paving will be between Kansas Settlement Road and Wayward Winds Road. The stretch of road serves as one of the main routes for the area's vineyards and agriculture businesses.

Robbs Road is currently maintained by the Highway and Floodplain Department. According to County Engineer Jackie Watkins, the road must be established as a County highway before the grant can be used.

"This is a wonderful thing," said chairman Peggy Judd, whose district includes the wine region. "I'm excited that we are able to get this off the ground. This is one of the positive economic things taking place in the area."

Cochise County will spend $200,000 of its own funds to finish the project. Engineering and design work will start in early 2019. Paving will be starting in fall 2019.
