TUCSON, Ariz. — National Fetch Day is happening in Tucson Saturday October 19th!

The holiday is celebrated to bring awareness of obesity in pets and encourage healthy exercise.

Obesity is the most common preventable disease in North American dogs.

Borderlands Brewing Company on Toole Ave. is hosting this year's free event in Tucson from 2-7 p.m.

Pet owners are encouraged to bring their leashed dogs for activities and free giveaways.

Approximately 25-30 percent of dogs are obese, according to VCA Hospitals.

The holiday takes place on the third Saturday of October every year.

Participants are encouraged to share photos on social media with #MakeFetchHappen and #NationalFetchDay

National Fetch Day parties include photo-opportunities, drinks and treats for both two-legged and four-legged attendees.

This also coincides with the mega-adoption event in Tucson. Three shelters are teaming up with the goal of finding homes for 600 pets this this weekend.

You can register to participate in National Fetch Day here.
