A 5th grader is now the two-time spelling bee champion at Rattlesnake Ridge Elementary.

After a spell-off between the top two spellers, Natalie Glasshoff became the champion.

She correctly spelled the final word "partridge" after she re-spelled the word "pauper" which was spelled incorrectly by her opponent.

5th grader Kael Olsen came in second place and 3rd grader Nathan Levya finished third and in the alternate position.

More than 5,500 Marana Unified School District students in twelve elementary schools are competing in the classroom and school spelling bees in December to earn a spot as one of the 28 spellers at the Marana District Spelling Bee.

The Marana District Spelling Bee will take place January 25, 2017 at 10:15 a.m. in the auditorium at Marana High School.
