COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - The Cochise County Sheriff's Office is responding to an accident with multiple injuries at Kartchner Caverns State Park after a tram overturned.

Carol Capas, spokesperson with the Cochise County Sheriff's Officer says the accident happened around 12:30 p.m.

Christopher DeMille, Kartchner Caverns Park Manager says 11 people were injured and three were hospitalized.

The extent of the injuries is unknown at this time, but nothing life-threatening.

DeMille says the tram, driven by a volunteer, was heading to the caverns from the discovery center when it overturned.

Kartchner Caverns State Park has not had an incident like this since it opened in Nov. 1999. The park has 23 permanent employees, 20 part-time, and about 80 - 100 volunteers.

All of the volunteers have specialized training on how to drive, said DeMille.

DeMille could not go into details of the crash, but says it is under investigation.
