PHOENIX (AP) - Family and friends will honor the life of Arizona's first female governor at a public memorial.
A celebration of former Gov. Rose Mofford's life is slated to take place Sunday at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Phoenix.
Mofford, who served as governor from 1988 to 1991, died Sept. 15. She was 94.
Seating is limited and doors will open at 12:30 p.m.
A Democrat, Mofford was secretary of state when she took over for impeached Republican Gov. Evan Meacham. Lawmakers from both parties credited her for leading the state with a steady hand during a tumultuous time.
Family members are asking that in lieu of flowers, people make donations to one of three organizations: St. Mary's Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul or Hospice of the Valley.
