Motorcyclist dies after crash near Broadway and Alvernon

TUCSON, Ariz. — Tucson Police Department is investigating a deadly crash involving a motorcycle that happened Wednesday near midtown.

Police say officers were called to the area of Broadway and Alvernon for a report about a serious injury crash.

Police have identified the motorcyclist as 20-year-old Andrew Totten.

Tucson Fire Department rendered aid to the motorcyclist where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives determined Totten was traveling on his Honda CBR50 Motorcycle northbound in the median lane on south Alvernon Way as he entered the intersection at East Broadway Boulevard he was collided with the front passenger side of a Toyota Avalon, which was making a southeast turn in front of him.

Police say the driver of the Avalon stayed on scene and indicated the attempt to enter the intersection on a green light and was waiting to make the turn when the light for north and southbound traffic turned red. The driver continued to turn and was hit by Totten.

Police say speed does not appear to be a factor.

Detectives determined the driver of the Avalon was not impaired.

The investigation is still ongoing.

No charges or citations have been issued at this time.
