The mother accused of burning her adopted daughter in a hot bath is no longer in jail.
Her bond was set at $25,000.
Samantha Osteraas, 28, was booked into the Pima County Jail on January 5.
Six days later, on January 11, Osteraas was assaulted by two other inmates while in jail.
On December 29 just after 8 p.m. Pima County Sheriff's deputies responded to a home in the 2900 block of West Sun Ranch Trail for a report of a rescue follow-up.
Upon arrival, deputies learned a 5-year-old girl had sustained significant burns as a result of hot water from a bath tub.
The 5-year-old was transported to the hospital.
After the incident was investigated, it was determined the burns sustained by the child were not due to an accident.
The case was presented to the Pima County Attorney’s Office and an arrest warrant was issued for Samantha Osteraas.
