Phoenix's largest lake already at capacity

Posted
PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) - Metropolitan Phoenix's largest lake is already at capacity this Memorial Day weekend.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says Lake Pleasant in Peoria became completely full by about 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Deputies say they will not permit anymore vehicles to enter the area at least for the next several hours.

Other recreational hot spots in the state have been bracing for crowds.

Rangers say Fossil Creek in Camp Verde is fully booked.

The holiday marks the unofficial start of the summer and is looking ideal for spending time outdoors.

The state is cutting the price in half for one-day fishing licenses and stocking trout in popular lakes.

State transportation crews also will take a break from major road projects to keep traffic flowing more freely.
