MESA, Ariz. (AP) - A Mesa police officer who has been accused of sexual misconduct has been reassigned to his home pending the outcome of an investigation.

City officials announced Tuesday that the reassignment was made after two women who don't work for Mesa came forward last Friday and accused Officer Jeffrey Neese of sexual harassment in 2017 and 2018.

Several Mesa police officers announced last Thursday they have filed a notice of claim for more than $1 million against the city and the department.

They accuse Neese of sexually harassing women on the force and say the city and the department failed to properly investigate and discipline him.

Neese was demoted to patrol officer two weeks ago.

He was a sergeant before the first allegation surfaced last August and was investigated by police.
