A live grenade was safely removed from a home in Surprise earlier this morning by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
At a home near Jomax Road and 159th Avenue, someone was cleaning out a home after the homeowner had recently passed away. While cleaning around 10:30 a.m., they found a grenade located underneath a pile of clothes, according to MCSO.
The individual contacted the sheriff's department. MCSO arrived at the home and called out a bomb squad. A bomb squad determined the grenade was live and took the grenade to a separate location where it was disposed of safely.
No injuries occurred and no evacuations of nearby homes were made.
My deputies & bomb squad safely removed a live grenade out of a rural home today, could've been a dangerous situation if we weren't notified
