TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Douglas, the town just two hours south of Tucson, was once the corporate headquarters for Phelps Dodge Mine.
Since the closure, the mining town has struggled to stay alive. This week we have shown you several attracks like the Historic Gadsen Hotel, the rebuilding of the Grand Theater and the world's largest art car museum.
Mayor Daniel Ortega says Douglas is looking forward to attracting permanent residents.
"Two of our maquiladora factories are expanding. We are looking at 50 to 60 new jobs in Douglas which is good for us. Kind of move everybody up the notch here. We are looking to build a new port of entry. Thinking a year, but it's probably 2 or 3 years down the road," he said.
