TUCSON, Ariz. — Manzo Elementary will rebuild it's greenhouse and aquatics system thanks to a $10,000 donation. The money was collected during a week-long community fundraising effort, with the help of El Charro Cafe, private donors, foundations, and businesses.
In early July, vandals targeted the facilities on campus causing thousands of dollars in damage.
When asked about the donation, Manzo Elementary Principal, Steven Laturco says he wasn't aware how much it was.
"I haven't heard that number yet, so I am shocked and excited with everything that has happened with the vandalism through the community has totally embraced our program," Laturco said.
Laturco added the damage was more extensive than expected and crews are still cleaning up in the aftermath.
