Man strikes light pole during police pursuit in Sierra Vista

The Sierra Vista Police Department arrested 61-year-old Louis Southern on multiple charges Wednesday after he was reported for reckless driving.

According to SVPD, officers responded to the area of South Highway 92 and Buffalo Soldier Trail around 9:10 a.m. after citizens reported a pickup truck traveling at high speeds. Officers received more calls reporting the truck of the same description in the area of Highway 92 and Avenida Cochise.

SVPD officers soon located the suspect and attempted to make a traffic stop which led to a pursuit.

Shortly after, the vehicle lost control, resulting in him striking a utility light pole on the side of the road. Southern then assaulted a police officer during processing.

Southern was booked into the Cochise County Jail on the following charges:

  • Unlawful flight from a pursuing law enforcement vehicle
  • Reckless driving
  • Aggressive driving
  • Criminal speed
  • Aggravated assault to a law enforcement officer
  • Felony criminal damage
  • Displaying a fictitious license plate
