Man sentenced for death of son left in hot car

PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix man who pleaded guilty to child abuse in the 2013 death of his 1-year-old son he'd left in a hot car faces more than 20 years in prison.

A judge on Tuesday sentenced 31-year-old Brokale Lytte Marques to 23 years in prison.

The sentence is with no possibility of early release but Marques gets credit for over two years of time already served.

Marques was arrested in 2013 after his son was found unconscious in a car in a Scottsdale parking lot.

He told police he left the child in the car because he couldn't find a babysitter and had to get to work. The boy died at a hospital.

Marques originally was charged with murder but he pleaded guilty to child abuse last November.
