A man was sentenced to 76 years in prison after being convicted of attempted first-degree murder of a National Park Service employee.
According to a press release from the National Park Service, Gil Gaxiola used a large rock to inflict life-threatening injuries on employee Karen Gonzales in 2013.
Gonzales later recovered after being hospitalized in Douglas, AZ.
Gaxiola was also convicted of armed robbery, three counts of aggravated assault, kidnapping and theft of means of transportation from an incident that occurred at Chiricahua National Monument in 2013.
