Man in critical condition after downtown shooting, suspect arrested

Tucson police are investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday night on E. Congress St. near the Rialto Theater.

According to Sgt. Bay with TPD, officers arrived to find a man with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.

Detectives learned the suspect was driving westbound on Congress when the victim made contact with him and his vehicle in the roadway. The suspect exited his vehicle, and after a verbal altercation occurred. The exchange turned into a physical fight and the suspect eventually shot the victim with a handgun.

The suspect immediately surrendered. He has been identified as 23-year-old Dillon Martinez. He was booked into Pima County Jail on the following charges:

  • Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon - Class 3 Felony
  • Aggravated Assault with Serious Physical Injury - Class 3 Felony
  • Discharging a Firearm in the City Limits - Class 6 Felony

Detectives are continuing to investigate.
