A man accused of posting an online message about the possibility of a school shooting in Tempe has been sentenced to two years' probation.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 19-year-old Christopher Rivera was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to one felony count of interfering with or disruption of an educational institution.
They say Rivera posted a photo of a handgun on social media on Aug. 9, 2017 with the caption, "Don't come to school tomorrow."
Prosecutors say the online page was specifically for Tempe McClintock High students.
Rivera told investigators he meant to send the post to only a few people and deleted it after being told by friends it wasn't being taken as a joke.
He also admitted the weapon pictured was a BB gun and didn't belong to him.
