Authorities say a Surprise man now is facing a second-degree murder charge after the death of a man he allegedly ran over with his car.

Surprise police say 19-year-old Chet Becker Jr. originally was booked into jail Aug. 13 on suspicion of felony aggravated assault and leaving the scene of a collision involving serious bodily injury.

They say 26-year-old Samuel Zeldin of El Mirage had been hospitalized in critical condition in a medically-induced coma and died from his injuries Monday.

Court records show Zeldin and Becker were acquaintances and they argued over how Becker was treating his girlfriend.

When Zeldin walked in front of Becker's car, authorities say Becker accelerated and struck the victim.

Police say Becker told investigators that he intentionally struck Zeldin because he was mad at him.
