Man dies from December bike collision

TUCSON, Ariz. — Tucson police have confirmed that 87-year-old Salvador F. Peñuelas has died from his injuries from a bicycle collision that happened on December 19, 2018.

Per TPD's press release, Peñuelas was riding his bicycle northbound on 6th Ave., north of Ajo Way, in the bicycle lane when, for unknown reasons he swerved out of the lane in front of a white 2017 Hyundai SUV.

The driver of the SUV, in response, honked her horn and attempted to avoid Peñuelas, but was unsuccessful and struck him.

The driver immediately stopped and remained on scene. Officers arrived around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Ajo Way and 6th Avenue.

Peñuelas was then transported to a nearby hospital by Tucson Fire with serious injuries. Sadly, he succumbed to those injuries on December 28, 2018., and next of kin were notified.
