Man dies after crash near 22nd and Alvernon

TUCSON, Ariz. — Tucson Police Department is investigating a deadly crash that happened on October 21 near 22nd Street and Alvernon Way.

Police responded to the intersection of East 22nd and South Alvernon about a report of a serious-injury crash involving two vehicles.

Tucson Fire Department took the driver of a 2016 Hyundai to Banner University Medical Center with serious life-threatening injuries. The passenger in the 2016 Hyundai was also taken to the hospital serious life-threatening injuries.

Detective determined a 2010 Nissan Maxima traveling westbound in the ceneter lane on 22nd heading toward the intersection at Alvernon. The 2016 Hyundai was traveling northbound in the center lane on Alvernon.

The driver of the Hyundai did not stop at the red light and drove on front of the Nissan.

DUI officers determined the driver of the Nissan was not impaired during the crash.

DUI officers at the hospital determined the driver of the Hyundai was impaired; however, speed did not appear to be a factor.

On October 26, officers were told the the driver of the Hyundai identified as 51-year-old Keith Russell Reed died from his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
