Last night around 8:45 p.m. there was a fatal vehicle collision at S. Wilmot Rd. and the I-10 underpass.

When members of the Tucson Fire Department arrived on the scene, the driver of the 1998 Nissan Altima, 25-year-old Ryan E. Rhoades, was pronounced dead.

After an investigation, the Tucson Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit determined that the vehicle was headed southbound on Wilmot Rd. at a high speed.

According to a TPD media release:

"As the vehicle approached the frontage road, the driver applied his brakes and slid into a concrete column that supports part of the I-10 overpass."

Rhoades was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to TPD.
