PHOENIX - Phoenix police say a 28-year-old man has been arrested in the shooting death of Lance McDowell, a player for the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League.
Police say Christopher Verland Ayers III was already in jail on unrelated charges when he was booked Monday on suspicion of second-degree murder in the Dec. 20 killing of McDowdell.
A Police Department spokesman, Sgt. Tommy Thompson, says investigators haven't determined a motive for the killing. McDowdell was found shot in an apartment complex parking lot. An attorney representing Ayers in the already pending case didn't immediately respond to requests for comment on the homicide allegation.
Charges in the previous case include armed robbery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault causing temporary disfigurement.
