TUCSON, Ariz. — The City of Tucson, as well as the Regional Transit Authority, celebrated the completion of a major road project on the southeast side.

A ribbon-cutting was held Thursday morning at the intersection of Kolb Road and Valencia Road.

The construction project was years in the making.

Valencia Road has been expanded to six lanes in all directions. New bike lanes, sidewalks, drains, and lighting were also installed.

The intersection will help the city as it grows with new businesses like Amazon.

"When a company like Amazon comes to Tucson, they want to know what the roads are going to look like," said Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild.

The project will also ease congestion which is expected to come with the growth.
