TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Presidential candidates catch the headlines but their campaigns, and the campaigns of local candidates depend on the person to person work that happens at the local level.

Headquarters for both major parties gather the ground troops for that very personal part of the campaigns.

Donald Trump attracted a large crowd in Tucson.  Pundits have spent a lot of time talking about how whether he's spending as much time as Hillary Clinton on what politicians call the ground game, the person to person push to bring out more of your voters.

Hillary Clinton has not been to Tucson so far but her campaign has the reputation of having a powerful get out the vote organization.

In Tucson, both Republicans and Democrats feel driven to deliver the party loyalists they can count on.

Jo Holt chairs the Pima County Democratic Party.  She says they're working the phones and knocking on doors to bring out Democratic votes from President down through all the local races.  That includes a extra push for Hispanic voters.

"We have Spanish speakers who are making phone calls and going door to door and we're trying to let the Hispanic community understand that they are important and once again that their vote really does count."

At Republican Headquarters, Pima Chair Bill Beard sees their mission as getting out the base, and he says Trump has brought out Republican voters who haven't voted in years.  Republicans are using traditional phone banks and neighborhood walks, and diving deep into the newer world of social media.

"It's forced folks in politics to make sure they're keeping up with it; so that when they're spending their campaign dollars they're doing so wisely because it does come down to what it the bang for your buck."

And with roughly seven weeks to election day, no one's slowing down now.
