The 6th Annual First Responders Appreciation Block party was held on Monday and brought out the community to celebrate first responders.

The block party - held at the Mountain View Retirement Village in La Canada takes place every year on September 11th.

Golder Ranch fire chief, Randy Karrer says recognition like this touches him right in the heart, "it's very humbling."

While the celebration takes place on such a tragic day in American history, Executive director of the retirement Village, Tim Nelson says, "It's a day that was horrible and we can turn it into something positive to say thanks to those first responders out there."

First responders from Oro Valley, Tucson, Border Patrol and Pima County Sheriffs Departments all took part.

Sharing with the community what they do on a daily basis and filling their stomachs with some good food.

All of this in appreciation for those who put their lives on the line to protect and serve.
