Memorial Day weekend travelers should expect delays when driving back from California on I-10.
Eastbound I-10 is reduced to one lane at the port, about three miles east of the Colorado River due to the reconstruction of the Ehrenberg Port of Entry.
Law enforcement officers will escort those with a load wider than 10 feet through the port area starting Thursday, May 25 until Tuesday, May 30. After Tuesday, drivers are expected to take a different route, such as Interstate 8 to the south or Interstate 40 to the north.
The wide load restriction is expected to remain in place through the end of September.
During this time, The Arizona Department of Transportation will reconstruct the port including construction of a new operations building, a new credentials booth, and a new auxiliary lane. The entirety of the $14.5 million project began in March and should be completed by Summer 2018.
The port of entry will remain open through the project to conduct safety inspections for commercial vehicles.
