Kartchner Caverns State Park is now Arizona's second state park designated as an International Dark Sky Park.
Oracle State Park received the designation in 2014.
The International Dark-Sky Association awards parks that preserve and protect the night sky, through educational activities and responsible lighting policies.
Dr. Bob Casavant, the Arizona State Parks and Trails manager of Natural Resources, Science, and Research says Kartchner Caverns, and Arizona's other state parks, support dark-skies conservation through family-based events, including daytime solar viewing, talks with astronomers and Star Parties.
Kartchner Caverns State Park has previously been awarded "Best Cave in the USA" and "Best Arizona Attraction" from USA Today Reader's Choice.
