Can you spell "wilderness?" That was the winning word in the Pima County Spelling Bee.
Students from across southern Arizona competed Saturday to try to advance to the state competition in March.
There were more than 40 students from 30 different schools.
Jillian Smith from Esperero Canyon Middle School took first place with the word "wilderness."
She and 2nd place winner Nihal Josyula from Basis Tucson Primary will represent Pima County next month.
