Interstate 19 has reopened at Ajo Way earlier than expected after crews set girders on the new Ajo Way bridge this weekend.
Interstate 19 closed in both directions at Ajo Way Friday night at 9 p.m. and was originally scheduled to reopen Monday morning at 5 a.m.
During the closure, drivers had to exit I-19 at Ajo, cross Ajo Way, and return to I-19 at the Ajo on-ramps.
According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, this road work is part of a two-year project to improve the traffic interchange at Ajo Way.
Work is on schedule to be complete in early 2018.
