The Arizona Department of Corrections is investigating the death of 26-year-old Daniel J. Acosta.
According to a media release, the death of Acosta is being investigated as a suspected homicide. Officers found Acosta unresponsive in his housing unit and paramedics pronounced him.
Acosta was assigned to the Cimarron Unit at Arizona State Prison Complex in Tucson.

All inmate deaths are investigated in consultation with the county medical examiner's office.
Investigators have reason to believe foul play may have been involved in Acosta's death. and ADC intends to fully pursue criminal prosecution of any suspect(s) identified in this case.
Inmate Acosta was admitted to ADC custody in 2013 following his sentencing out of Maricopa County to serve 19 years in state prison for kidnapping.
