Interstate 17 will be closed in both directions south of Flagstaff, according to a news release from the Arizona Department of Transportation.
ADOT says northbound traffic is closed at State Route 179 located at milepost 299. Southbound traffic is closed at Kelly Canyon Road at milepost 331.
Non-commercial traffic will be able to detour through State Route 89A.
ADOT says northbound commercial vehicles will have to wait in Camp Verde for the roadway to reopen.
The closure stems from police activity near I-17 at Newman Park Road where ADOT is safely disposing of hazardous materials. ADOT says it is best to dispose of these materials in place.
The closure of the roadway may last up to four hours.
