Hundreds of people gathered at the Tucson Convention Center Friday to honor 47 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in Pima County since the 1880's.

The featured speaker, Pima County Attorney Barbara Lawall called the occasion "deeply personal and moving."

"Out of these 47 lives lost, sadly and regrettably, I've been a prosecutor in the county attorney's office for 30 of them.  I have attended the funerals of nearly all 30 in my career as a prosecutor.  They're among the darkest days of my life," Lawall said.

More than 30 law enforcement agencies took part in today's ceremony.

In honor of the occasion the Pima County Supervisors declared today Pima County Peace Officers Memorial Day.
