From coast to coast - people rallied to send a message to keep families together.

In Southern Arizona, hundreds gathered in Tucson's Armory Park and in Bisbee despite the high temperatures.

Protester, Jeovana Picos says, "strength comes in numbers - that's why I'm here to show my support for everyone and for the children because I want to see the children reunited."

Picos says, there can be ways to lay down the law without tearing families apart. "I think when we say families belong together people think that we don't believe in border security, that's not the case - we just want people to be treated humanely."

A group of women who KGUN9 spoke with say they were appalled with the news of families being separated.

One woman says, in her 72 years of life she has never demonstrated but felt compelled to come out for the children. "The conditions that these children are in- we're building generations of traumatized children."

President Donald Trump took to Twitter to support U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
