TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Hundreds of people came to Tumacocori to honor the life of the Italian missionary, Father Kino, on Sunday, January 10.
A mass was held to remember the Jesuit Priest's arrival at the Indian village of Tumacocori in 1691, where he later founded a mission. Many say this is a 325-year legacy.
"It was so wonderful to see so many people come out. You know, sometimes we forget our history, sometimes we forget our past, but people came today because they recognize that we build on what has gone before us. And certainly Father Eusebio Kino was one of the great heroes of our time in this place," said
The event including a mass in front of the historic mission church, and kid's activities including making scientific instruments like Father Kino used, and a petting zoo.
