Rescue puppies from Cananea, Mexico are now in Tucson awaiting adoption.

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona is caring for 10 puppies rescued by the Friends of Bisbee Animal Shelter.

Kelly Galligan, who is president of the Bisbee shelter, traveled 45 miles to Cananea to bring the puppies to Bisbee. Seven of the dogs are Labrador retriever mixes from one litter and the other three are mixed breeds.

"Friends of Bisbee Animal Shelter has a relationship with HSSA, because we have transferred pets into their care in the past and it just makes sense logistically," said Galligan in a statement. "What HSSA can take care of in an hour would take us days. HSSA can spay, neuter and vaccinate 10 puppies so much more quickly, which ultimately minimizes their length of stay in the shelter system."

The puppies will be quarantined for 7 to 10 days before they are available for adoption.
