GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) - Police say a homicide suspect who fatally shot himself following an hours-long barricade situation while he was holed up in his car at a Tempe hotel was a 26-year-old Gilbert man.
Gilbert police on Thursday identified the suspect who died July 8 as Alfredo Armando Prieto Jr. and said the victim of the July 5 homicide was 55-year-old Jesus Granillo-Garcia of Gilbert.
Sgt. Mark Marino said the case remained under investigation and that he could not provide any information regarding circumstances of the homicide, including a possible motive.
Police previously said a single gunshot was heard from Prieto's car after gas was deployed when he stopped negotiations with authorities on Monday.
According to police, Prieto had locked himself in his car when police approached after tracking him to the hotel.
