A man who was involved in last month's shooting near UA campus has been taken into custody.

According to the Tucson Police Department, 20-year-old Bernard Deshon Rayford has been booked into the Pima County Jail on his felony arrest warrant for one count of First Degree Murder and one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Detectives are still attempting to identify and locate additional suspects involved in the shooting.

On October 28, 2017, officers responded to a call reporting a shooting around 1 a.m. in the 1600 Block of North Highland Avenue.

According to TPD, when officers got to the scene they found two men with "obvious signs of gunshot trauma."

Both men were treated at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Peter Ortiz, 25, was pronounced dead several hours after arriving at the hospital.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Gang Unit responded to investigate the incident and determined that just before the call came in, four uninvited guests arrived at a house party and tried to enter the home. They were told they were not welcome to the party and could not enter.

Police say the subjects then fired several gunshots into the air and then at partygoers, striking two of them.
