Home repairs for senior veterans in Tucson

and last updated

The annual Tucson Veterans Day Parade is happening Monday morning downtown, and just before the start, Mayor Jonathan Rothschild is holding a press conference to ask the community to nominate a senior veteran in need of home repairs.

Mayor Rothschild will be speaking at 10 a.m. at Presidio Park.

There are 92,198 veterans in Pima County and half of them are age 65 and older. The City of Tucson is partnering with the National League of Cities, Purple Heart Homes, the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association, The Home Depot, and Bank of America to provide modest home repairs and modifications such as ramp repairs/installation, railings, grab bars, a fresh coat of paint inside or out, or a yard cleaned up to help senior veterans live safely in their home.

The goal is to help meet the needs of senior veterans in the Tucson community so they can "age in place" with no cost to them or their families.

To apply to receive free home repairs, visit the Purple Heart Homes website.
