TUCSON, Ariz. — TUCSON, Ariz. -- Holiday travel is just around the corner - highways and airports will soon be crowded with people going home or visiting friends and family.
Last year, AAA reported about 54-million people traveled during the Thanksgiving holiday. And by the end of the year, 112-million people total traveled for the holidays. The agency is expecting to see that trend to continue this year.
"So if when it comes to traveling, if you're planning for Thanksgiving, we are in that Goldie Locks months right now where you're going to want to get the best bang for your buck," said Aldo Vazquez with AAA Arizona.
AAA found that Sept. 25 through Oct. 27 is the best time to book for Thanksgiving season, but even though Oct. 27 just passed, don't worry. AAA said the best deal you can find will be purchasing seven to 13 days before Thanksgiving. However, there is a risk with that since tickets will be limited.
Right now is the best time to buy airfare for Christmas. AAA said the most expensive day to travel is the day after Christmas.
"But the best overall day to fly would be Christmas Eve. And if you do want to avoid those crowds, don't fly between Dec. 21 and Dec. 23, because AAA des expect airports to be extremely crowded during those days," said Vazquez.
Its never too early to book your holiday travel. Start booking as soon as you know your holiday plans.
"Tucsonans who are looking to travel for the holiday season, the best tips we can give them, if they're going to be flying is start your research now. It's never too early," said Vazquez.
Consider buying travel insurance, you never know when life's unexpected events will happen and cause you to miss flights. This way you can get some, if not all, of your money back.
