TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Congressional candidate Matt Heinz is going after his incumbent opponent Martha McSally-- for not condemning Donald Trump and all he stands for.
In the upcoming Democratic primary, voters will choose between Heinz and Victoria Steele to run against McSally.
Trump pushed back, saying he had sacrificed too, after a speech at the Democratic National Convention from Muslim American parents whose son was serving as a US Army officer when he was killed in Iraq. They spoke of their son’s sacrifice and criticized Trump for talking of barring Muslim immigrants.
Republicans, McSally included, condemned Trump for his reaction to the Khan’s family’s comments.
But Heinz wants more.
He says, “He's unfit, temperamentally unfit, and it is absolutely incumbent upon our leaders, like Martha McSally to say, you know what, not only do I condemn that statement but I condemn this entire operation."
Heinz invited retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Latas to speak. Latas lost a son who served in Iraq.
Speaking of Trump’s reaction to the Khan family, Latas says, “It is only a marker of instability as far as a candidate to have such a lack of compassion and such a lack of empathy to even think of comparing what he might consider loss to what we've gone through."
Mc Sally says she will not endorse Trump.
Her office sent statements from parents who lost children in the service thanking her for criticising Trump and what he said about the Khan family.
