Having nothing to do during the Halloween season can be pretty scary.

Luckily, the Town of Oro Valley has not one, but five Halloween-themed events in October this year.

Haunted Hayrides

New this year are the Friday Night Haunted Hayrides at Steam Pump Ranch at 10901 N. Oracle Road. Watch the dead come to life right before your very eyes, as this hayride takes you on a haunted journey of mayhem and spooky local folklore.

Rides are free, but donations gladly accepted. Please note that the hayride may be a little too spooks for very young children. Parental discretion is advised.

  • Friday, October 5, 7 – 9 p.m.
  • Friday, October 12, 7 – 10 p.m.
  • Friday, October 19, 7 – 10 p.m.

Monster Mash

Activities include a scary movie scavenger hunt, creepy carnival games, pumpkin decorating, food trucks, photo booth and a haunted hayride. (This event is a little spookier than the Oct. 26 Halloween Spooktacular, and may be more suitable for older kids.)

Zombie Shoot at The Archery Range

Free archery event with zombie targets on the fixed range, pumpkin shooting, and a 14-target, 3D fun shoot on the west walking course.

Shooters must be at least eight years old. Please bring your own bows and arrows. (No crossbows)

  • Saturday, October 20
  • 8 – 11 a.m.
  • Oro Valley Archery Range at Naranja Park, 810 W. Naranja Drive

Doggie Dash 'n Dawdle

This all-ages event is part dog festival and part run/walk. The festival is free, and includes crafts, a dog costume contest, training demos and free dog stuff. Runners and walkers have the option of a one- or two-mile race with their four-legged friends. Races begin at 5:30 p.m. Registration for the race is just $10 in advance (by Oct. 12), and $15 through race day. Your fee includes a Doggie Dash ‘n Dawdle souvenir, giveaways and a medal. Visit www.orovalleyaz.gov for registration info.

Halloween Spooktacular

Free activities include games, hayrides, costumes, trick-or-treating down Candy Cart Lane, and much more. Enjoy costumed staff and a live DJ. Food will be available for purchase.
