A Green Valley couple visited their home for the first time Friday afternoon since they watched their garage melt away in a fire Thursday night.

A Green Valley Fire Department spokesperson says the call came in around 5:30 p.m. and firefighters arrived seven minutes later.

"I  could see the car burning all the windows, molding, and all of that was just, it was just exploding," said Stein Simonsen, the victim.

The couple says they are still processing what happened and their next steps.

"Our brand new car... 2,000 miles on it, a 2017 Subaru Outback trashed along with everything else," said Colleen Simonsen, a victim. "All the stuff that we lost, but that is just stuff, it will get replaced one of these years."

However, they were not alone. Community members came together to help the couple pick up the pieces.

"We brought them to the places they had to go and helping them remove everything from their refrigerator stuff so it doesn't spoil and move it over to their neighbor's refrigerator," said Jerry Chopp, a helping neighbor.

Colleen says it will take two to three months before anything is fixed.

"We've got very good neighbors, thank goodness," said Simonsen.

The fire department says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
