A ranger at Grand Canyon National Park shot a suspect early Thursday morning, park officials say.
According to a news release from the park, it happened at around 1 a.m. near the canyon's south rim inside the park. The suspect sustained minor injuries in the incident, as well as the ranger. Authorities took the suspect to the hospital for assessment.
The park is still open, and all visitor services are available, officials say.
The National Park Service's Investigative Services branch is leading the investigation, and says the process will be conducted, "with thoroughness, professionalism and impartiality."
Park officials couldn't provide any further details in relation to the incident.
