PHOENIX (AP) - Gov. Doug Ducey is ordering additional funding for more than 30 domestic violence shelters in Arizona.

The governor announced Thursday that the state Department of Economic Security will release $280,000 to assist 32 shelters.

Ducey says the money will help domestic violence victims trying to meet basic needs as they rebuild their lives.

He says there's no better time than the holiday season to spread goodwill and money that is sitting unused in state coffers.

The Domestic Violence Shelter Fund provides funding to shelters in 13 counties.

The fund is comprised of money amassed from court fees, tax check-offs and notary fees.

It is normally capped at $2.2 million each year but has generated more in recent years.
