PHOENIX (AP) - Gov. Doug Ducey has named a middle school teacher and a school district superintendent to the Arizona Board of Education, a day after the board's president said he was resigning amid a feud with the state's elected schools chief.
Ducey says the board appointments are Vail Unified School District Superintendent Calvin Baker, and Janice Mak, who teaches courses related to science, technology, engineering and math - or STEM - in the Paradise Valley Unified School District.
Ducey thanked outgoing board members Amy Hamilton and Roger Jacks in a written statement Thursday that didn't address Miller's resignation. His seat remains open.
Miller blamed Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas for not working with the board and preventing it from implementing policies.
Ducey signed a bill in May ending a fight between Douglas and the board Miller led over staff and investigators.
