TUCSON, Ariz. — The Golf Links sports complex was officially renamed the Todd M. Harris Sports Complex Friday morning.
Harris was a soldier from Tucson who died in the line of duty in 2010 while stationed in Afghanistan. Tucson Parks and Recreation held a dedication ceremony Friday morning.
One of Harris's childhood friends, George Roberts, shared memories at the ceremony, and spoke of the close bond they made at a young age.
"Todd and I had our differences for sure, but one of the biggest was that Todd was a pretty macho dude -- something I was not," Roberts said. "Joining the army, to him, meant that he would be at the forefront of battle, if it ever came to it. That's just who simply who he was."
Harris's friends say dedicating the park in his honor is their way of paying tribute to him and celebrating his many accomplishments.
