Here are this weeks' hottest home video releases:
Ghost in the Shell
In this tepid adaptation of the beloved manga and anime, Scarlett Johansson stars as Major, a human-robot hybrid who seeks out the secrets of her creation. Excellent effects and solid performances from Johansson, Juliette Binoche and her supporting cast can't keep the wacky story on track. For my full review, click here. Extras in the Blu-ray/DVD/digital copy combo include featurettes on the making of the film, as well as the story's mythos.
Girls: Season 6
Lena Dunham's powerhouse half-hour HBO dramedy wraps up its run with a powerful and nostalgic send-off that encapsulates the journeys of Hannah (Dunham), Jessa (Jemima Kirke), Marnie (Allison Williams) and Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet). Each of the friends faces life-defining crises that force them to reevaluate their lives and relationships with one another. Inside the episodes featurettes and a "Goodbye to Girls" send-off with behind-the-scenes footage are included.
Minnie's Happy Helpers
Minnie and Daisy form a #girlsquad that goes around helping Mickey and the gang through various silly problems. Melding the formats of "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" and "Mickey's Roadster Racers," the lighthearted animated feature is a rewatchable, slightly educational tale for preschoolers. There's also the bonus episode, "Teed Off."
